The Band

Amoriste is an up-and-coming band from the English countryside, delivering a unique brand of indie pop drawn from an eclectic mix of influences including Athlete, Elbow, Morrissey and The Editors.

Originally formed in 2007 in Chelmsford, Essex (the birthplace of radio itself) and performing under previous guises including the internationally known Soprano, Amoriste is now complete with a four-man line-up consisting of Liam Tolan (vocals/guitar), Phil Cockerton (keys), David Crawford (bass) and Rael Bearman (drums).

Amoriste began their career playing any venues they were given – living rooms, basements, and small neighbourhood pubs. However, it wasn’t long before the band began gaining local attention, especially with the release of their 2007 single Dirty Tricks. When the single began receiving national airplay, the band were invited to fill more impressive slots, including supporting the likes of Ash and Supergrass at various UK festivals. The band soon embarked on a German tour, as well as playing major Croatian fesival Fokaj, sharing the main stage with the likes of The Lemonheads. The band also self-released an EP in 2008, selling 500 copies at various tour dates throughout the year. After a brief hiatus in early 2009 to manage line-up changes, Amoriste retreated into the thick undergrowth of the English countryside homes and studio to refocus their efforts, hone their songwriting skills and perfect their live set.

Late 2009 saw Amoriste triumphantly return better than ever, with numerous new recordings and two promotional videos for the tracks Berlin and This Park Is Mine. The band completed a successful 8-date UK tour in October 2009 and saw national press and radio attention, even being featured in NME’s unsigned section twice in late 2009 (where they were described as “delivering anthemic indie tunes”). Major plans are now in the works for 2010, including relentless hometown London and Essex gigging, including a spot on the exclusive Club Fandango circuit and various festival slots, as well as the recording of a new 5-song EP in April.

Only truly back in the game a few months, Amoriste have definitely begun their journey back into the hearts and minds of indie pop lovers everywhere.
